Gynaecomastia
Gynecomastia or enlargement of male breasts, affects as many as 30% of men. Breast enlargement is common during puberty but generally resolves by age 18. There are a number of medical causes of this condition that must be excluded. One of the commonest is the use of anabolic steroids by body builders.
Sometimes this breast enlargement persists and can be uncomfortable, as well as socially and psychologically devastating. Occasionally liposuction alone can be used to remove the excess fatty tissue, but more often the gland itself needs to be surgically removed.
